Quick and Easy Poha Recipe

What is Poha?

Poha is Flattened Rice or beaten rice that is cooked with onions, peanuts, spices, herbs and a dash of lemon juice. There are numerous ways to make it. Some people like to eat it by adding different kinds of veggies or some prefer simply by adding only onions and potatoes to it

This is quick and easy breakfast Poha Recipe.

INGREDIENTS:

250 gms Poha (Flattened Rice)
2 tsp Cooking Oil
1 tsp Mustard Seeds
5-6 Curry Leaves
2 Green Chillies
1 medium Onion (finely chopped)
1 large Boiled Poatato
(quartered)
A handful of Unsalted Peanuts
1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
2 tsp Sugar
1 Lemon Juice
Salt To Taste
Chopped Coriander Leaves
(For Garnishing) or use Curry Leaves

METHOD:

  1. Put the poha in a sieve and wash under running water for 2 minutes. Keep aside to drain.
  2. Heat the oil in a pan on a medium flame and add mustard seeds and curry leaves to it. Let them splutter and fry till spluttering stops.
  3. Then add onions to it and fry till golden brown.
  4. Add peanuts and stir frequently. Cook it for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Then add boiled potato, green chillies, salt to taste, sugar and turmeric powder to it. Mix well and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  6. Drain the poha completely and add it into the prepared mixture.
  7. Pour lemon juice over the poha and mix well.
  8. Garnish with some chopped coriander leaves, crunchy sev or curry leaves and serve hot.

NOTES:

  • Always use medium or thick flakes Poha. Thin Poha turns mushy and sticky after rinsing it.
  • Rinse the poha in water and let it soak for 3-4 minutes. Don’t soak it for long time.
  • Poha is a wholesome meal and on of the healthiest breakfast recipe.
  • This is rich in antioxidants and a light snack to have anytime.
