Chilla is a savory Pancake made from Chickpea Flour and a myriad of flavorful ingredients.

The beauty of Chilla lies in its adaptability. The primary ingredient is Chickpea Flour (Besan), creating a Gluten-free base that is both wholesome and nutritious.

To enhance its taste and texture, add various ingredients according to personal preference. Finely chopped Onions, Tomatoes, Capsicum, Green Chillies, and grated Ginger infuse the Chilla with a burst of flavors. The addition of Spices such as Cumin Seeds, Turmeric Powder, and Red Chilli Powder elevates its taste.

Serves = 8 to 10 nos Besan Chillas

For BatterVegetables
3 Cups or 330 Grams Besan
(Chickpea Flour)
2 Onions (finely Chopped)
1 tsp Red Chilli Powder1 Tomato (finely Chopped)
½ tsp Cumin Seeds1 Cucumber (finely Chopped)
Salt to Taste or 3 tsp1 Capsicum (finely Chopped)
½ tsp Black Salt 2 Carrots (Grated)
½ tsp Turmeric Powder2 Green Chillies (finely Chopped)
½ tsp Garam Masala (Optional)1 tsp Ginger (Grated)
3 cups WaterOil (for Cooking)
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine Besan (Chickpea Flour), Red Chilli Powder, Cumin Seeds, Salt, Black Salt, Turmeric Powder, and Garam Masala.
  2. Gradually add Water and whisk to make a smooth batter. The consistency should have a medium consistency, not too thick and not too runny.
  1. Add all finely chopped Vegetables; finely chopped Onions, finely chopped Tomato, finely chopped Capsicum, chopped Cucumber, grated Carrots, grated Ginger, and finely chopped Green Chillies to the batter.
  2. Mix well to combine. Feel free to select any vegetables of your preference.
  1. Heat a non-stick pan or skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add a few drops of Oil and spread it across the pan.
  3. Pour a ladleful of the Batter onto the center of the pan and spread it in a circular motion to form a thin pancake.
  4. Drizzle a little Oil around the edges of the Chilla.
  5. Cook until the edges start to lift and the bottom turns golden brown.
  6. Flip and cook the other side until it is cooked through.
  7. Remove the Chilla from the pan and repeat the process with the remaining batter.
  8. Serve hot with Mint Chutney, Yogurt, or your favorite Dipping Sauce. Additionally, the Chilla can be enjoyed plain or rolled up with a filling of Choice, transforming it into a wholesome wrap.
