How To Identify A Good Quality Pasta?

1. Visual Inspection
A Good Pasta is ideally made of “Semolina” and the wheat used for a Good Pasta is called “Durum Wheat” which is actually “Yellow” in color which means a Good Pasta will always be “Yellow” and made of “Semolina”.
- The identity of a Good Pasta is when you take it in your hand it won’t become White. It remains Yellow.
- Good Pasta is not made of Refined Flour and Refined Flour is White. If Pasta is completely White, it indicates this is made up of Refined Flour. Pasta shouldn’t be completely White.
- When you pick it up it won’t become moist very soon. The more Plasticky they sound the more Semolina it has.
- Water is a very good indicator to tell the quality of pasta. Water shouldn’t turn cloudy whenever you’re boiling Pasta. It should remain clear. If water turns cloudy, it indicates Pasta is not of good quality. Pasta made of refined flour or loose starch when boil in water, the water will never be clear
Why Is Good Quality Pasta Important?
- Bad quality pasta doesn’t coat the sauce really well.
- The other flour loses all the nutrition when you cook it or boil in water. Durum wheat flour holds on its structure and its nutrition inside even when we put this in water for boiling. All nutrients should stay inside.
How To Check Its Quality?
- The best test to check the quality of pasta is to cook it with the most “Neutral Sauce” “Aglio E Olio” Sauce.
- Boil the pasta in water with a little bit of salt for 10-12 minutes. Don’t add any oil to it.
- The quality of wheat will ensure the pasta does not stick.
- Heat 2 tsp oil in a pan. Add onions, parsley, and spaghetti pasta to it.
