Semolina and Malai Toast: A Delectable Twist to Your Breakfast Routine
Breakfast, being the most important meal of the day, deserves attention and creativity. Amidst the array of breakfast options, Semolina Toast emerges as a delightful treat that combines ease of preparation with a burst of flavors.
Also known as Rava Toast or Suji Toast, Semolina Toast involves the use of Semolina/Suji/Rava (a coarse flour made from Durum Wheat), Vegetables, Spices, and Bread. Its preparation involves a mixture spread over Bread slices, which are then toasted or baked until golden and crisp.
Semolina Toast offers a fusion of textures – the crispiness of the Bread contrasts beautifully with the softness of the Semolina mixture.
The Creamy Transformation
Generally, Semolina Toast batter is prepared using Yogurt, imparting a unique tanginess to the Semolina-based mixture. But I am replacing it with fresh Milk Cream. The introduction of fresh Milk Cream brings forth a delightful twist, offering a creamy and luscious upgrade. This variation not only adds a creamy texture to the dish but also enhances its richness, creating a toast that is both comforting and indulgent.
Let’s get started with the “Semolina and Malai Toast” recipe.
INGREDIENTS:
For Batter | Vegetables & Other |
---|---|
155 Grams or 1 Cup Semolina (Suji / Rava) | 1 Onion (chopped) |
122 Grams or ¾ Cup Malai (Milk Cream) or Yogurt | 1 Green Capsicum (chopped) |
½ Cup Water | 1 Tomato (chopped) |
Salt to Taste | ¼ Cup Sweet Corns (boiled) |
½ tsp Red Chilli Powder | Bread Slices |
¼ tsp Black Pepper Powder | Oil or Butter for Toasting |
¼ tsp Black Salt | |
1 tsp Chaat Masala |
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Preparing the Batter
- In a mixing bowl, combine Semolina, fresh Milk Cream (or Yogurt), Salt, Red Chilli Powder, Black Pepper Powder, Black Salt, Chaat Masala, and Water.
- Mix well to form a thick batter.
2. Add Vegetables
- Add all Vegetables; chopped Onion, chopped Tomato, chopped Capsicum, and boiled Corns.
- Mix everything together until well combined.
- Allow the batter to rest for about 15 to 20 minutes. During this time, the Semolina will absorb the liquid, and the batter will thicken.
3. Cooking Toasts
- After resting, spread a generous amount of Semolina and Vegetable batter onto Bread Slices evenly.
- Heat a non-stick pan or griddle over medium heat.
- Cook the toasts on medium to low heat until the bottom side is golden brown or crisp.
- Drizzle some Oil or Butter if needed.
- Flip the toast and cook the other side until it is also golden brown and the Semolina batter is cooked through.
- Repeat the process with the remaining Bread Slices.
- Once the Semolina toast is cooked, serve the Semolina Toasts hot with your favorite Dip, Chutney, or Ketchup.
